[ Letter from the Revenue Commissioner and Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Revenue Department to all DVCS, DCS, Spl. DCS, ACS & SLAOs ]
Sub:- Entrustment of Central Government's functions to State Governments in terms of Article 258  of the Constitution to acquire land for purposes of the Union under the land Acquisition Act, 1894.
With reference to the above subject, I am directed to send herewith a copy of Gazette of India, Extraordinary-Part II Section 3 Sub-Section [ii] dated: 25-10-1985 incorporating Notification No. S.O. 782 [E] dated: 25-10-85 for information and necessary action.

S.O. 782 [E] : In exercise of the powers conferred by clause  of Article 258 of the Constitution of India and of all other powers enabling him in this behalf and in suppression of all previous notifications on the subject in so far as they relate to the States of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Himachala Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maghalaya, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and West Bengal, the President hereby entrusts to the Government of the aforesaid States, with their consent, the function of the Central Government under:
 the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 [ 1 of 1894 ], except the functions exercisable by the Central Government under the proviso to sub-section  of Section 55 of the said Act: and
 the Land Acquisition [ Companies ] Rules, 1963, in relation to the acquisition of land for the purposes of the Union in these states subject to the following conditions, namely:
[a] that in the exercise of such function, the respective Government shall comply with such general and special directions as the Central Government may, from time to time, issue; and
[b] that, notwithstanding the entrustment, the Central Government may itself exercise any of the said functions should it deem fit to do so in any case.
